On Wednesday, May 20, 2020, the brothers of the Beta Rho Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated in Charlotte, NC, at the request of the chapter’s Director of Education Bro. Dee Rankins, turned out to volunteer at Druid Hills Elementary to support the Grab-N-Go Mobile Food Pantry.
Chapter members donated more than three hours. Working along side other volunteers the team from Beta Rho Sigma organized food in an assembly line fashion then helped load the vehicles of the families as they drove up. By the end of the day more than 100 bags were filled for needy families in our community. “With so many families in need as a result of Covid-19, it was a blessing to be a part of providing them with some much needed groceries,” one brother was overheard saying. Chapter President Joe Rambert, who was on hand to help, was pleased with the turnout. “I am so proud of how we came together for such a worthy cause. I want to personally thank Bro. Rankins for his work in helping coordinate this event.” One of the school officials remarked, “Every time we put out the call for volunteers the Sigmas always answers.” That was really rewarding to hear and validates our commitment to education and our community
